I’m having a go at creating some music. I’ve got some nice themes that I’m playing with, but I could do with something else that contrasts and builds on what I’ve got.
Don’t worry, I’m not asking anyone for their own compositions, but I would like an idea about what key to switch to. I’ve not looked at music theory since I was 18, so knowing good chord progressions are a bit beyond me!
This is what I have so far. It’s in 6-8 time, quite light.
Main theme, primarily C major. Progression is C, Am, F, G, C, Am, D, G
Minor section, primarily A minor. Progression is Am, G, F, C, Am, G, F, D, G
Variation of main theme, same as above.
Variation of minor section… bit more expressive, but otherwise same as above.
…and now I’d like to explore a third variation of the main theme, but possibly based around a different key. What would be a good key to move to?
Many thanks in advance!
